CERTIFAI Project Reaches Major Milestone: AI-Powered Cybersecurity Tools Successfully Tested

17. 4. 2025, Prague – The CERTIFAI project, funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe program, has successfully completed a major development phase, reaching its planned 18-month milestone. The project brings together top European organizations to create smart, AI-driven tools that improve the cybersecurity of digital products and services.

About CERTIFAI

CERTIFAI (Agile Conformance Assessment for Cybersecurity Certification Enhanced by Artificial Intelligence) is a 3-year EU-funded project (2023–2026) involving 11 partners from 8 countries. The project is coordinated by TECNALIA Research & Innovation and includes organizations such as Thales Austria, NTNU, TTTech, EZÚ, DNV, and others.

Its goal is to create smarter, more adaptive cybersecurity certification for Europe’s digital future.

Over the past 18 months, the CERTIFAI consortium has made significant progress in building and testing tools that support continuous, cost-effective, and agile cybersecurity certification. These achievements are now helping to prepare real-world testing and long-term adoption.

Key Achievements by Month 18

  • Demonstration of AI-based tools for understanding complex cybersecurity standards and identifying risks.
  • Initial and second versions of the CERTIFAI software framework, integrating results from multiple technical work packages.
  • Successful piloting of real-world use case demonstrators, including metrics and evaluation methods.
  • Completion of a comprehensive threat modelling framework – helping systems anticipate and counter potential attacks.
  • Mid-term workshop held with key stakeholders, sharing early results and gathering expert feedback.
  • Interim project report submitted to the European Commission, documenting progress and outlining next steps.

These results show that CERTIFAI is well on track to deliver an AI-enhanced certification process that adapts to the fast pace of modern product development, while ensuring ongoing compliance with cybersecurity standards.

Next Steps

In the second half of the project, the team will focus on:

  • Finalizing the CERTIFAI framework and tools.
  • Expanding testing in industrial environments.
  • Preparing for long-term impact through standardization and stakeholder engagement.
